Central Perk Singapore was founded by Lim Jit Min, who was inspired to start a cafe themed around the hit sitcom 'Friends' (Central Perk is the name of the cafe that's the common hangout of the characters in the show).
The goal, according to Lim, is to offer the 'Friends' experience — something, it seems, that many people are eager for. This project stands as the only themed cafe to be crowdfunded, speaking to the enduring popularity of the show.
The cafe's interior has been meticulously designed to recreate the look of the set, and there's even a small part that's designed to look like the streets of New York, where the show is set. But Central Perk Singapore stands out for one more reason: unlike other themed cafes, it actually takes its food and drinks seriously.
Formerly of Boathouse and Prelude, Chef Ian Phoon helms the Central Perk kitchen, whipping out Italian, American and European-inspired dishes.
MUST TRIES: Yes, the food and drinks are playful — the menu's items are named after references in the show — but this time they're not just an afterthought.
Look out for mains like Chandler's Thanksgiving Chicken and confections such as Mrs Braverman's Cheesecake.
